Day 131- Camping in the Open

Day 131- Camping in the Open

Hi there,
Levi and I packed up our stuff and walked JaRule over to Clones Corners to check him at the front. Turns out the post office was also in the travel center, so we walked over and Levi picked up his iPhone. Since his old phone still works with WiFi, we were both able to play on the internet while we are breakfast. After several cups of coffee and a full charge on the phone we headed out for the day.
The rest of the day Levi had fun playing on his new phone and we made some good progress for a late start. We were walking on I40, but went on the overpass when the frontage road started up again. Levi and I both got a little excited when we saw an old motel sign. We decided to check it out. There was a newer sign that welcomed truckers and said there was a restaurant and lounge. So, we walked on and saw the restaurant was only for breakfast. We searched for the office and around the corner we saw the lounge was obviously a strip club. Then we got closer to the motel and it was not running and guarded by five Rottweilers. We walked away fast! As we did an older man stopped to say hi and confirm the shady lounge. He suggested we take the frontage road on the other side, because it followee I40 closer.
So, we continued on and realized we were too far from Moriarty and we would have to find a camp spot just off the road. We found a tunnel, but it had several dead animals in it and we were creeped out. Then we found a low spot to hide us slightly, but there were too many thorns that threatened my sleeping pad. Finally, we settled on just setting up in the open. It was strange being so obvious, it was definitely the most out in the open camp spot yet. However, it worked and we made it through the night.
