Day 135- A Beautiful View

Day 135- A Beautiful View

Hi,

The night at the hotel was fabulous. What was especially wonderful was the continental breakfast! The lady had said we were in for a treat, but she really meant it. It was probably the best continental breakfast we have had thus far: eggs with herbs and cheese, potatoes, bagels, delicious croissants. We filled up as usual and then went back to the room to complete a few more days on the website. I was bummed we did not make it to the indoor hot tub, but we never seem to make it, so it was not much of a surprise. We checked out at eleven and continued on to make it through Albuquerque.

Right away we made it across the Rio Grande River which was very beautiful. The town also changed when we crossed to the rougher areas. It was good we had gotten the hotel room when we did, because I wouldn't have wanted to find ourselves in this part of town come nightfall. We stopped at a Kmart to pick up some backup tires for JaRule. We also stopped at a Sonic and used some coupons we had gotten months prior for some ice creams. To get all the way out of town we had to climb a huge hill, but the views at the top were amazing. It was strange to see everything we had crossed in the past two days ahead of us. We stopped for some tacos and then met back up with i40.

The frontage road was terrible for walking, because there was no shoulder and heavy traffic. Levi and I were a little stressed on this part of the road, but we finally made it past  to "open range land." This is when we met Craig in his yellow jeep. He gave us a brief history of the area and told us that a good camp spot would be on the BLM land to our left. We were thankful that he confirmed the land would be fine to camp on, and we headed down a dirt/sand road to find a good spot. We decided to go down into a dry River Bed, because it hid us from any trucks going through. The sun went down and the chill came on fast. We climbed into our tent, ate a snack, and headed for bed for another day completed.

Best,

Shikira
