Day 136- Zero Dollar Day

Day 136- Zero Dollar Day

Hello There,

The river bed camping spot worked out very well, but it was very cold. We tried to pack up quick with our frozen fingers so we could get to walking and warm up. We had a goal of a zero budget day. Levi pushed through the sandy road back to the frontage, and I continued to push for the couple miles we had left before the dead end. It was hard not to eat at the casino, but we managed to resisit. We had to become a little creative in getting ourselves up to the road, so we climbed some rocks to the overpass from underneath. Originally we were going to be done walking on i40, but we decided to stay on a bit longer to avoid a very roundabout road on several Indian Routes.

On we went for about three more miles before the frontage road ended and we had to cross a barb wire fence to get on the shoulder of the interstate. Before doing so we stopped and made some lunch. The rest of the day we walked along the highway and made some good mileage. We were a little nervous about the police stopping us, but only one did, and he was very nice and wanted to make sure we were okay. Some people think we are pushing a baby, but when they get closer they realize and laugh.

The end of the day arrived, and we saw a dirt road heading down under the overpass. We took that and found a camp spot right udnerneath. We looked into a Diner that had been advertised on billboards to make sure they were going to be open for Thanksgiving the next day. I talked with my mom and let her know that we were going to get a good dinner, and she was really happy. We got in the tent,  and Levi ate some stinky tuna. The whole night the trains came rushing by and blew the cold wind right through our tent. I was chilled, but still managed to fall asleep. It was a successful zero dollar day, and we were looking forward to a Thanksgiving meal the next day.

Happy,

Shikira
