Day 149- Salt River Canyon

Day 149- Salt River Canyon

I didn't expect it to get as cold, but there was ice on the duffles outside yet again. When I got out if the rent Charlene was reading in the truck with the heater on. She rolled down the window to invite me in, so I made some hot cocoa and hopped in the front seat. Soon enough all four of us were keeping warm in the heated truck and ate our oatmeal in there. Instead of completely packing up, we decided to stay another night at the campsite and left our tents up. Then we drove to our drop off spot at the top of salt river canyon.
I was a little nervous about walking through the canyon and really thankful we didn't have to worry about JaRule. The first section was downhill and very easy. Plus, the views were so incredible! We quickly made it to the bottom and looked around the old gas station and jail cell. Then it was time for the dreaded uphill section. Surprisingly it was a lot better than I expected! At one point Levi took a shortcut up the hill and I stayed on the street. We were curious how much faster his route would be, but the ten minutes he saved left him huffin and puffin. I, however, enjoyed the few minutes I had walking with me, myself, and I.
Shortly after reaching the top of the canyon we were happy to see the familiar white truck with lunch. We enjoyed some food and a break, and of course the company and then set back on the road. Things were a lit tougher the second half of the day. I had used most of my energy on the first uphill section and didn't realize how much we had left. I quickly grew tired with a headache. We took a break and I took a short nap. After that I felt much better and we were able to finish the walk for the day at the campsite.
That night we enjoyed some awesome hamburgers and I great fire. I was able to make jiffy pop for the first time and we all somehow ended up in the warm truck again at the end of the night reading and writing in our journals.
