Day 160- Rainy Tent Time

Day 160- Rainy Tent Time

Hey,

Woke up to rain and decided to wait it out. Kira had hopes of making it to Quartzsite soon and was worried that a half day today would inhibit our progress. We hung out anyway and snacked on caramel apple lollipops. The rain slowed and Kira climbed inside a trash bag since she had lost her rain coat. We packed everything up and hit the road.

The day passed rather slowly. One man stopped and told us he had biked across three times. We walked on in the overcast setting and the sprinkling skies kept us damp. Kira spoke with her mother and sister. Finally we pushed 9 miles to a small interstate town.

Tonopah offered up a couple gas station restaurants and one family eatery. We went for the full restaurant, but upon entering were rather surprised. The place was half bar and half eatery. The menu was eclectic and the staff was not qualified. We laughed at the odd nature of the place and hung out for nearly an hour while we ate and charged our phones. The waitress told us that she had lived in a house with no water or power with her husband and two kids for 15 years. We smiled at how good we had it.

Pushing forward we knew we wouldn't make it much further. We actually ended up getting a lot further that we thought we would. The roads got smaller and smaller and toward the end of the day we were walking on a little two lane road with the light of one head lamp. Kira crept herself out and decided that after walking in the dark for over an hour that we had to stop. We were coming up on a lot of lights and she really didn't want to find out what it was. We walked into the dirt and set up. Straight to sleep.

To the upcoming couple of days in the desert,

Levi
