Day 6- Settling In

Day 6- Settling In

Friends,
Day 6 began with a solid start; we made nine miles before lunch. Shikira and I have developed quite the appetite. For lunch we wolfed down a medium pizza, three pierogies, and an order of cheese fries. By 4 o'clock or so we had some extra cash in our pockets thanks to Evaline (at the post office), and Carol and Gabby (following our post lunch nap in the park), so we share a Rolo McFlurry. With a large meal, a nap, and desert put away we were able to keep truckin. We had a goal in mind and thought we knew where we might be camping when Patty Ann rolled up and offered her back yard! After she drove away we realize that what she thought was 5 miles was actually 7.6. We attempted to call her, with the intention of telling her we couldn't make it before dark. Then came Basia, a polish woman, who thought we were lost. Before we could even tell her what we were up to she said we would be staying with her. By the time we had made it the 3.6 miles to her house she had already gone shopping for us. Curry chicken, beets, firework slaw, potato salad, chips, salsa, and two beers were to be our dinner. Not only that, but this amazing woman had a newly renovated cottage that was recently vacated, so we had our own house. After dinner Shikira passed out and I waited around for our Polish host to get back from an errand. When she arrived home I got a long and intense lecture on how I was responsible for Shikira. She was very concern, and probably still is, about Shikiras feet, specifically about calluses. I assured her that Kira was a woman capable of her own decisions but this very concerned and very kind woman wasn't having it. Before I went to bed I had been equipped with vitamin E for her Kira's feet. Before hitting the sack I helped Kira apply it and warned of the impending lecture that was sure to come the following morning. I went to sleep very concerned that Bosia would convince Kira to give up the trip all together and knowing that we would be resting the next day.

Goodnes graciousness,
Levi Stiles
